Disappointment: Nokia X
After the official announcement of Microsoft’s purchase of Nokia, rumors have spread that Nokia has long wanted to release a smartphone running Android and may well do so before making a full deal with Microsoft. This cheered on Nokia users who were discouraged. And here at the MWC are the Nokia X, Nokia X +, Nokia XL smartphones, which should fill the price gap between the Asha and Lumia lines.

What disappointed me? The software platform Nokia X 1.0 is an assembly of Android 4.1.2, from which everything that belongs to Google was “cut out”: the application store, mail, chat and other services, replaced them with Microsoft and Nokia services, and made their interface shell- vyrviglaz zakosy under Windows Phone with its tiles and biting colors, which also slows down (according to The Verge). Yes, for the same amount you can pick up a “Chinese” with similar characteristics, but normal Android In addition, after reading Joe Harlow's interview, I realized for myself that the release of the Nokia X is just a trick. She said that their main focus is Windows Phone, and Nokia X should help to lure Android users to Windows Phone. So draw your own conclusions.
Samsung GALAXY S5
Samsung officially unveiled its new flagship smartphone GALAXY S5 running Android 4.4.2 KitKat. The smartphone has a 5.1-inch full HD Super AMOLED display; 4-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor 801 @ 2.5 GHz; 2 GB of RAM; 16/32 GB of internal memory + microSD; cameras: 16 megapixels (main) with HDR and selective focus (blurs everything around the selected subject), 2 megapixels (front); protection against dust and water; fingerprint scanner in the Home button.
Since MWC is an exhibition of mobile achievements, it is dedicated specifically to mobile solutions - smartphones, and a little less often - tablets. Despite this, Dell and HP presented their Dell XPS 11 and HP Pavilion x360 transforming notebooks. With the ability to rotate the screen 360 degrees, the user can work with them in 4 modes.
The HP Pavilion X360 is a budget convertible notebook with an 11.6 inch touchscreen, an Intel N3520 or N2820 processor, 4/8 GB of RAM, a 320/500/750 GB hard drive, Beats Audio technology, there are 2 colors: coral and silver . It weighs x360 1.4 kg.
Dell XPS 11 is a cut above HP x360. First, it is the thinnest and lightest transformer notebook. Secondly, there is a fully touch-sensitive keyboard, which is very convenient. Thirdly, the size of a small tablet is hidden as a full-fledged Intel Core i5 processor of the latest generation. Under the “hood” of the Dell XPS 11 Intel Core i5 4th generation with Intel HD 4200, 128 GB SSD, 4 GB RAM. As in the XPS 13, the carbon fiber is used in the XPS 11, making the laptop only 1.13 kg.
Best gadgets last year
GSMA (GSM Association) announced the winners in the nominations for the best smartphone and the best tablet of the last year. They were HTC One and Apple iPad Air, respectively. Apple iPhone 5s, Samsung GALAXY Note 3, Nokia Lumia 1020 and LG G2 competed with HTC One.
That's who really pleased me at the MWC 2014, so this is Canonical. They presented 2 smartphones running Ubuntu: Meizu MX3 and BQ Aquaris 5, which should be on the market soon. Both smartphones were previously sold on Android. So Meizu MX3 is equipped with a 5.1-inch display (1800 × 1080), 8-core Samsung Exynos 5410 Octa, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal, 8 megapixel camera - the main, 2 megapixel - front. BQ Aquaris 5 with 4-core MediaTek Cortex A7 @ 1.2 GHz processor, PowerVR SGX544 @ 286 MHz graphics processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory. Although the specifications for Ubuntu backgrounds may differ from Android backgrounds.
Also, foreign observers made some interesting videos about the work of Ubuntu on smartphones. I suggest to see them:
Also, the developers have promised that Unity 8 will appear in Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr LTS. This means that the convergence of Ubuntu is coming to the final stage, and very soon we will have one distribution for all kinds of devices. And Tom’s Hardware recognized Ubuntu as the best at MWC 2014!
That was such a Mobile World Congress 2014. Of course, this is not all that happened within its walls, but I could not tell you about everything that happened there. Let's discuss in the comments everything related to the MWC 2014: what I have already written and what was not mentioned in the article.
